Why social workers in England must renew with the HCPC – A message from the HCPC

HCPCBelow is the message from the HCPC for social workers’ registration renewal which runs from: 1 September to 30 November 2014.

The HCPC registration renewal period for social workers in England opens on Monday 1 September 2014. All registered social workers will be posted details on how to renew their HCPC registration. You will also receive a reminder of your authentication code for the online renewal system, which allows you to complete your renewal in just a few minutes.

All our professions renew their registration every two years at a cost of £80 per year. Every individual must complete a professional declaration which includes confirming that they meet our standards. They must also pay their registration fee for the next two-year registration renewal period or set up regular payments by direct debit. The quickest and easiest way to do this is online at http://www.hcpc-uk.org/registrants/renew/. For social workers in England, the deadline for doing this is Friday 30 November 2014.

In line with HCPC standards, a random sample of 2.5 per cent of social workers invited to renew will be selected to submit a continuing professional development (CPD) profile. Those selected for audit will receive a separate letter shortly after their renewal notice and must complete a profile that demonstrates that they meet the standards for CPD and submit this by the renewal deadline. For more information see the CPD section of the HCPC website. <www.hcpc-uk.org/registrants/cpd >

We are continuing to work with employers and stakeholders to make sure that all social workers who wish to continue practising renew their HCPC registration. We have produced a series of short videos (click here to see the list of videos) and will be joining @SWSCmedia Twitter chat on 9 September 2014 from 3:00 to 4:00 PM to discuss and answer any question regarding renewal of social workers’ registration and CPD audit. We will also be hosting a free webinar  on Thursday 11 September 2014 which will look in detail at registration renewal and CPD. You can sign up here for the Webinar.

If you do not renew your registration you will no longer be able to use the title ‘social worker’, which is protected by law. It is therefore important that you renew your registration if you intend to continue practising your profession as a social worker.
