Thank you for joining the debate and for sharing your views regarding HCPC and Social Workers’ registration, regulation, and Continuous Professional Develop (CPD).
Also our great appreciation goes to HCPC and particularly Marc Seale (HCPC CEO & Registrar) and Mark Potter (HCPC Stakeholder Communications Manager) for joining us in the debate and answering the many questions from Social Workers. This debate offered an excellent example of positive and proactive social media engagement by our regulator.
This discussion was conducted slightly differently from our usual debates and was more of a question and answer session focusing on social workers questions. We hope you enjoyed the debate and were able to clarify your questions. However, we are aware that due to time limit there were some questions that remained unanswered and therefore, we suggest you contact HCPC to clarify any pending questions.
During the debate HCPC reconfirmed that the deadline for registration with HCPC is 30 November 2012, and that HCPC will write to all those social workers who fail to renew their registration by that date giving them notice that unless they complete the registration process immediately and no later than 2 January 2013 they will be removed from the Register. HCPC confirmed that until 2 January 2013, social workers may continue to practise. You can see the full text of HCPC announcement here. Therefore, if you have not renewed your registration it is important that you do so as soon as possible.
HCPC also reconfirmed that Continuous Professional Develop (CPD) for social workers will be outcome based rather than based on number of hours and days. This means that social workers should demonstrate how CPD activity has enhanced their practice and/or contributed toward the outcomes for their users of services. This broadened scope for CPD activity highlights HCPC’s appreciation of and reliance on their registrants’ professional judgement. This also implies that activities as diverse as going to a conference, reading a book, or participating in @SWSCmedia debates are recognised as CPD activity, so long as you can document what you have learnt form @SWSCmedia debates and how it has contributed to the enhancement of your practice.
